The Green Side of Somerset County

Welcome to the new SCRTA - Somerset County Recreation & Trails Association

Somerset County Rails to Trails Association began with a big mission - to help complete the Great Allegheny Passage from the Maryland state line to Ohiopyle State Park. These 43 miles of rail-trail have become one of the most popular and - dare we say - most scenic parts of the Passage. Check out Paul g Wiegman's photograph of the view from Big Savage Tunnel just "up the hill" from Maryland.

The GAP complete, the SCRTA mission has expanded, and our name has changed ever so slightly. We are now Somerset County Recreation & Trails Association.

We're helping not only to maintain our part of the Passage but to help facilitate the development of the trails around improving Lake Somerset and our vitally important part of the 9/11 Memorial Trail connecting the sites of the awful events of September 11, 2001.

Join us! Volunteers will be needed - and very much appreciated! Tune in here to learn more as we grow.
